This blog post describes how to hack Visual studio .net 2005 in order to compile projects targetted at the .net framework v 1.x.
Please let us know if you know of any places not on this list.

Three and a half chilli rated
Saigon Saigon, 313-317, King St, London, W6 9NH
http://www.london-eating.co.uk/6225.htm
Our comment: There were a number of small issues that stopped this place being 4 chilli rated. The food took 25 minutes to arrive and the stock being warm rather than hot were two of the main niggles. This place is definitely much more restaurant than a quick bite to eat cafe that we normally go to.
On the plus side, the stock had good flavour and was very different from anything on our quest so far, not so sure about the mixed meats and the lack of chilli sauce on the tables.
We had number 69 - Bo Bun Hue.
A while back I posted a Poll macro for Umbraco. There was a reasonable amount of interest, so I posted the source.
As the original post says, this was just a very quick demo and I thought that the method of storing responses would need improving.
Niels posted a link to the demo on the Umbraco site and as a result it got several hundred responses which slows down Umbraco when trying to acess the node where the responses are stored in the GUI.
This post is just to advise against using this Macro on production systems until I (or someone else) get the chance to improve it.
First and foremost, DO NOT go and get this and try and install the package over the top of a 0.1 blog extension. This isn't an upgrade and I am afraid I CAN'T HELP YOU if you do this.
If you want to try this out you can always create yourself a temporary Umbraco using http://umbraco2006.ferguson.ath.cx/contact-us.aspx
Good, now that is clear.
A couple of things I have done:
- added a resources folder into SVN that contains related HTML, CSS and XSLT (these files were not in SVN).
- added a release folder into SVN that contains the latest and greatest .umb file plus release notes.
- added a bat file makePackage.bat that will move dll's and .ascx controls into the resources folder named with their appropriate GUID's and then assemble the package into the release folder. Just run this in the project folder after you have built in visual Studio to create a new .umb file.
I am working on an uninstaller for development, so you can test the installer ascx without having to manually delete everything from Umbraco each time you rebuild the project, but it isn't ready yet.
Details of the enhancements are in the release notes.
If you are having trouble with timeouts and my Umbraco upload progress bar please have a read of the section 'Using Location Filtering to Restrict/Modify NeatUpload's Request Processing' at http://www.brettle.com/NeatUpload-1.2/docs/Manual.html
The following is from Morten Nielesen, who had some troubles getting large files to work.
tried tweaking the parameters but I was still get an error around 85% saying:
“Error: Thread was being aborted”
The file I was trying to upload is 18,607,377 bytes.
I have managed to upload a file at 13,172,394 bytes after retrying a couple of times.
Anyway I finally think I hacked it. Add the following to web.config:
<system.web> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="600" /> <system.web>
For some reason the asp.net worker thread aborts the thread before it has finished (so this is not an error in NeatUpload except how it keeps the thread alive)
Unfortunately it didn’t work when I just added this to the /NeatUpload folder, so this is now a setting for all pages on the website.
For those of you who have asked what all the Pho posts are about, here is a good introductory guide to Pho for you:

I was wondering how many Umbraco users we have in the UK with a view to maybe getting some kind of user group together.
If you are based on the island, then leave a comment on this post with your name, location and a little background on what you do with Umbraco, e.g. hobbyist, personal site hosting, commercial site.
I've had a few requests for the Poll macro source to be released. I am very busy at the moment, so I am just posting the ascx and associated c# for now. Those of you who wanted a complete package will have to wait a week or so I am afraid.
A couple of things:
- If you modify my code, please send me your changes with an explanation so that I can incorporate any new features/enhancements into my source controlled version.
- If you find any bugs and are unable to fix them, please drop me an e-mail.
- If you use the Poll on a for profit site please consider making a donation using the link at the bottom of the right hand navigation.
To get you started here is how the Macro tag looks for the demo
<?UMBRACO_MACRO
macroAlias="Poll"
Width="350"
ResponseStoreNodeId="1201"
Question="What does Umbraco need most?"
Responses="More documentation;Database/OS independence;Better Blog extension;Forum extension;Other">
</?UMBRACO_MACRO>
Note: The width property specifies how wide a 100% response bar would be.
You will also need to create a Document type called fmUmbPollResponse with a single property 'Response' that the extension will use to store votes.
As the original post said, this was created as a 20 minute demo project, so don't expect it to be well thought out and 100% stable yet. Obviously any use is entirely at your own risk.
Download from /media/1695/pollsource.zip
Future enhancements:
- Separate layout from code.
- Supply nice default stylesheet
- Add colour list parameter to allow user to specify voting bar appearance.
- Store all responses in a single Umbraco node.
