Implementing Search with Umbraco
After a lot of frustration trying to implement content search in Umbraco yesterday I decided that this article may be a good idea.
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Umbraco/Samples_and_Articles/Implementing_Search
I wrote it all in one quick sitting, so I haven’t had time to go through it with a fine tooth comb yet and check the spelling and grammar.
The more I write tutorials and docs, the more I become convinced that screencasts are better, so I will try and create the article as a screencast too.

Running on Umbraco
As you may know I have been supporting Umbraco, a fantastic .net open source CMS and application framework.
After a few months of debate I have finally bitten the bullet. This weblog is now running with my own customised version of the Umbraco blog extension.

Bring on the wookiees!
The tournament seems to have come alive! Some great football this weekend, and another tense, boring and frrustrating 90 minutes from Enland.
So Portugal on Saturday. The memory of 2004 is still clear in my mind. I was in at the stadium when we crashed out, and will never forget the walk back to the car after the game. The portugese poured onto the streets in celebration and at the time it seemed as though they had all come out to taunt me.

This one should be interesting too.

I am preparing my minuting skills, but need to be a bit careful that I don’t end up turning into the Umbraco secretary….

Rolling with Ruby on Rails
I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Ruby on Rails, so I finally got down to running through the tutorial at: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html
Pretty impressive I must say, but the jury will be out until I get to try and build something ‘real world’ with it. This might not be for a while, as all of my spare ‘geek’ spare time is being invested in Umbraco at the moment.
I am pretty sure it would handle any of the web projects that usually land at my feet, but it always comes down to whether I ‘like’ it or not.
Also, I did a brief search for UK based shared hosting packages that support ROR and only managed to find one.

Plugin to export html from Umbraco
This will export static HTML to alternative document root when you publish an Umbraco page. It is a first version and the primary idea behind sending it out now, is to get some feedback and build up a feature list for the future. It works reasonably well and my site is currently using it to serve umbraco exported html from Apache on Linux. If you are interested, please road test and send me your feedback, but please beware I expect bugs……
